This airline earns sky high marks.
On Tuesday, TripAdvisor released its list of the best airlines in the world, compiled using an algorithm that factored in the quantity and quality of airline reviews and ratings submitted by travelers. The list was dominated by Asian airlines, with Singapore Airlines SINGF, -0.56% taking the top spot for the second year in a row. (Other rankings also give Singapore Airlines a top spot.)
What makes Singapore Airlines so special?
“They win first place in consumer polls decade after decade,” says George Hobica founder of Airfarewatchdog.com. “The planes are new and clean, the cabin crew, who go through the most rigorous recruitment and training process in the airline industry, are beyond compare. With its new first class product on some newer planes, with a comfy lounge chair and a separate bed, Singapore seems to be saying catch us if you can: whatever the airline equivalent is of ‘eat our dust’ — maybe ‘inhale our vapor trail.’”
And one TripAdvisor reviewer, who claims that he used to be a member of an airline’s cabin crew, says the following about the airline:
“I had plenty of legroom, the food was excellent and the crew so friendly and helpful. Crews at Singapore Airlines have to undergo 3 and half months training, and it shows. Every interaction I had was greeted with a warm and genuine smile. Nothing was too much bother, and often my needs were anticipated before I could make a request. If I made the trip again, I would definitely use Singapore Airlines.”

“Among the global top 10, Asian carriers dominated with four airlines on the list (Singapore Airlines, EVA Air, Japan Airlines and ANA), followed by the Middle East with two airlines (Qatar Airways and Emirates),” the report noted.
You’ll have to scroll all the way down to the No. 6 spot before you find a North American airline. That honor goes to Southwest Airlines LUV, +0.67% Among the things that many travelers say they like: Low prices and two checked bags for free. The airline also won the top spot for airlines in North America.
