Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen said a cancer he successfully received treatment for several years ago has returned.
In a post on his personal website Monday, Allen said his doctors have recently started treating him for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the same type of cancer he was diagnosed with in 2009 and received chemotherapy to treat.
“A lot has happened in medicine since I overcame this disease in 2009. My doctors are optimistic that I will see good results from the latest therapies, as am I,” Allen said in the post.
Allen and Bill Gates founded Microsoft MSFT, +1.08% in 1975. Eight years later, Allen left the company as its chief technology officer when doctors told him he had Hodgkin lymphoma, from which he recovered. But Allen retained a significant stake in the software company, which formed the basis of his wealth. His net worth is now estimated at $20.5 billion by Forbes, making him the 44th wealthiest person in the world.
