WASHINGTON — Donald Trump Jr. agreed to give limited follow-up testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee next month about answers he previously gave as part of lawmakers’ Russia probe, people familiar with the matter said, after a subpoena of the president’s son by the GOP-led panel drew widespread criticism from Republican lawmakers.
The younger Trump will speak to the committee in mid-June for two to four hours on five to six topics, the people said.
The committee had subpoenaed Trump Jr. after previously asking him to come in voluntarily to answer questions. Trump Jr. balked when the committee declined to put limits on the length of time or number of questions he would be asked, the people said. He offered to answer questions in writing.
The Senate Intelligence Committee is crafting its report on election interference in 2016, which will also address its investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, as well as former President Barack Obama’s response to the interference attempts.
