The body of the late Sen. John McCain arrived at the U.S. Naval Academy for burial on Sunday, winding up a week of tributes to the war hero and GOP presidential nominee who died Aug. 25 at age 81.
Sunday’s memorial service and burial were private, in contrast to a series of public commemorations last week. Those culminated with a service Saturday at the Washington National Cathedral where former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama offered warm tributes to the former Navy pilot and prisoner of war.

Sunday’s memorial service, in the Naval Academy chapel in Annapolis, Md., was expected to include more praise from officials including Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and retired Gen. David Petraeus.
McCain was expected to be laid to rest next to his Naval Academy classmate and friend, Adm. Chuck Larson, who died in 2014. Larson had reserved four burial plots for himself, McCain and their spouses at the U.S. Naval Academy cemetery, according to Sen. McCain’s office.
