Michael Avenatti was arrested for domestic violence on Wednesday for allegedly attacking a woman in Los Angeles.
Avenatti, a lawyer for Donald Trump’s alleged ex-mistress Stormy Daniels, was taken into custody in Wednesday for allegedly leaving the woman’s face “swollen and bruised,” according to TMZ.
The incident originally took place on Tuesday but LAPD responded to the address Wednesday where Avenatti could be heard saying “She hit me first, This is bulls–t,” the website reported.
The LAPD confirmed the arrest on Wednesday night.
Avenatti became ubiquitous on cable news when Daniels came forward with accusations about an affair with Trump.
Daniels has said she had sex with Trump in 2006 — and was paid $130,000 to keep it quiet. Trump has denied having an affair.
The lawyer claims he is mulling a run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.
The response to his arrest was quick from politicians who had events scheduled with the ardent Trump critic.
The Vermont Democratic Party told the Burlington Free Press that Avenatti’s appearances in Vermont this weekend were cancelled.
“The Vermont Democratic Party has cancelled Mr. Avenatti’s forthcoming scheduled appearances in Vermont, and will be refunding all ticket sales,” read a statement from the group.
Avenatti, who did not respond to a request for comment, was still in police custody Wednesday evening.
