Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell chalked up getting Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court as his proudest accomplishment in the chamber.
“The most important are the lifetime appointments to the courts, and we’ve prioritized handling President Trump’s outstanding nominations for the Supreme Court,” the Kentucky Republican said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Asked by host Chris Wallace if the confirmation was his proudest moment in the Senate, McConnell said, “I think so.”
“I think the most important thing the Senate is involved in is the personnel business. The House is not in the personnel business,” he added.
Besides Kavanaugh, who was confirmed Saturday by a 50-48 vote, the Republicans also have put Justice Neil Gorsuch on the nation’s highest court.
While Republicans have sung McConnell’s praises for getting conservative judges on federal courts, Democrats have blasted him for holding up the nomination of Merrick Garland for a year at the end of former President Obama’s term.
