Four people were killed by a disgruntled gamer at a Madden football videogame tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., on Sunday afternoon — with terrifying camera footage capturing what appears to be a red-laser dot creeping up a player’s torso and audio of the gunshots, according to reports.
The suspect is dead, the city’s sheriff’s office said. According to local TV’s News4Jax, he shot himself.
The gunman was a disgruntled gamer who had played there and lost, a competitor said. The shooter “targeted a few people” and shot them before killing himself, gamer Steven “Steveyj” Javaruski told the Los Angeles Times in a direct message on Twitter.
Emergency responders shut down the streets around Jacksonville Landing, where the “Madden 19” Tournament was being held at the GLHF Game Bar, and urged people to steer clear of the area.
“Mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Twitter at 2:13 p.m. “The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY.”
“Multiple fatalities at the scene, many transported [to hospitals],” the office wrote in a second tweet about 30 minutes later.
Four people were killed and at least seven more injured, News4Jax.com reported, citing sources.
