Tesla had ended its popular referral program in January, saying at the time it cost too much, and that the program was unlikely to be revived because it hurt margins. But, “We’ve since restructured the program to save the company money while also offering rewards that are super exclusive,” Tesla said Thursday.
In February, CEO Elon Musk said the company is likely to post a loss in the first quarter, but could return to slim profitability in the second quarter.
Tesla shares are down 18% year to date, compared to the S&P 500’s SPX, +1.09% nearly 14% gain.
