October: Nature’s reminder that seasons change, leaves fall, the air cools, and all things must pass.
OK, maybe investors don’t have to be so gloomy. October’s just a bit choppier for stocks than other months are. Make sure your portfolio is properly tuned, i.e., you’ve been trimming winners as the market has appreciated, which reduces risk (making hay while the sun shines — but that’s another season, and another metaphor). Then you should be able to ride out any twists and turns that October takes down Wall Street.
So buckle up and stay alert. Remember, there’s opportunity in the financial markets for mindful investors at any time of the year. After all, the dead of winter is a season of giving.
