Candidates shouldn’t brag about how much experience they have in public service, at least not if they want a successful career, Sen. Claire McCaskill said.
The Democrat running for re-election in Missouri told MSNBC that experience is usually a positive quality when seeking work, but not in her line of work.

“People don’t get excited about folks who spent life in public service, they want something new,” she added. The fact that she’s spent so much of her time in public service has been a hurdle, she said.

During her MSNBC interview, the incumbent said the state has been leaning more Republican lately. “It will never be completely red or blue, but it’s close to red these days,” she said.
McCaskill is running in a closely contested seat against her Republican challenger, the state’s attorney-general, Josh Hawley.
