There are Davids and Goliaths, a woman in her 30s, men in their 70s. Rich, and not so rich. Black, Asian, white. Mayors, senators and private citizens with no government experience. A veteran. Household names. Unknowns.
In all, more than two dozen Democrats are running for president in 2020 or actively considering a bid. The latest to make it official: Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
The goal for many is simply to get on the stage in June for the first of a dozen planned primary debates in the 2020 election cycle. Others hope to win the mantle of front-runner status and ultimately, perhaps, a sense of inevitability.
But that is a ways down the road. The first voter verdicts will come on Feb. 3, 2020, with the Iowa caucuses.
Here is the MarketWatch list of likely candidates, in no particular order, and the status of their deliberations based on their announcements and reviews of local and national news organizations.
